Mentori guinomi by Ohtani Masahiko#8
This guinomi is made by the "kurinuki" technique, ie. hollowed out of a
block of clay. The sides are then cut to create interesting dents and
contours. This is known as "mentori". This guinomi has been fired a
total of 3 times. After the first firing,water-repellent liquid is added
to the dent. The rest of the cup is covered with thick, white glaze and
fired for the second time. Liquid gold is added and the piece fired a
final time. The dent is perfectly placed to accomodate the thumb, which
means that the guinomi sits comfortably in the hand. Approx. vol. 95ml/ 3.2 oz.
