Mentori guinomi by Ohtani Masahiko #16

This guinomi is made by the "kurinuki" technique, ie. hollowed out of a block of clay. The sides are then cut to create interesting dents and contours. This is known as "mentori". After the first firing, water-repellent liquid is added to the dents. The rest of the cup is covered with thick, white glaze before firing again. The dramatic shape and white glaze give it a modern feel and the contours make it pleasant to hold.
