Potter’s Profile – Watanabe Aiko

1992 – Graduated from the Department of Fine Arts (painting), Kyoto Saga Junior College of Arts (current name: Kyoto Saga University of Arts).

1994 – Started studying firing methods at an anagama (cave kiln) in Shigaraki.

2001 – Became independent, setting up her own kiln in Iga, Mie Prefecture. Held an exhibition at Anagamatoro Hiirono Gallery, Tokyo.

2003 – Moved her workshop to its present location.

2020–2021 – Held a joint exhibition with painter Uwe Wittwer and poet Jürg Halter at the Ariana Museum in Geneva, Switzerland.

2021 Sep–Nov – Held an exhibition at Complete Works, Geneva, Switzerland.

2023 Jun–Oct – Held a joint exhibition with painter Uwe Wittwer and poet Jürg Halter (Monogatari Project vol. II) at the Gewerbemuseum, Zurich, Switzerland.

Watanabe Aiko has exhibited her work at a number of locations throughout Japan and has recently extended her scope of activity abroad, exhibiting in Switzerland and the United States.
