Year of the Dragon Kimekomi figure from Haku-ichi, Kanazawa
Kimekomi dolls are a traditional Japanese craft dating from the 18th century. The figures are created by tucking fabric into grooves carved into a wooden base and come in a variety of styles.
Hakuichi have elevated the art form to a new level by producing an original fabric, " Kanazawa Haku-nuno". Unlike traditional cloth made from woven gold and silver threads, "Kanazawa Haku-nuno"is created by applying gold foil directly onto the cloth. The process depends on impeccable timing to show off the foil to its best advantage, resulting in an elegant, even sheen. This is further covered with a special coating which allows the item to be wiped clean with a soft cloth.
The quality of the cloth makes it a perfect match for the kimekomi technique and Haku-ichi ensures that the process of attaching the fabric onto the base is done by traditional craftsmen.
"Kanazawa Haku-nuno" can only be produced with expertise unique to the Haku-ichi company, making this dragon figure an original piece to be treasured for years to come.
