Handpainted Uzuuchi Shirochibu guinomi by Kingyoku III
A very ornate sake cup in characteristic Kutani style. The interior is painted gold and the outer surface boasts a sumptuous raised design of gold flora on a finely detailed shirochibu (white raised dots) background.
The tiny dots have been drawn in spiralling circles using a technique known as "uzuuchi"( whirlpool dots) and they draw the eye inwards, giving the design added depth and emphasizing the gold pattern to great effect.
The exact color is rather difficult to produce accurately. The dots are white on a greish white ground.
Handcrafted in Ishikawa prefecture, Japan by Nakada Kingyoku. He is a Master craftsman recognized by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan and the recipient of many prizes.
