Handpainted Shumaki Sansui pattern guinomi from Tobo Rokusai - Kounosuke kiln
Tobo (Pottery studio) Rokusai was founded by Kounosuke I who was known as a master of the Nanga School of Japanese painting. His influence can be seen in the free spirited painting style of his son, Kounosuke II.
Kounosuke II's cups are intricately hand-painted, especially on the inside. Hand thrown on a wheel, they are exceptionally light and easy to hold due to the characteristic indent on the side.
