Banko Wood-fired Shidei (purple) teapot by Otsuki Shun #55

Otsuki Shun is a promising young potter who takes pride in his craft during every stage of the creative process, deriving inspiration from the advice of experienced Banko craftsmen and tea ceremony masters. The clay which he makes himself is of a high quality, producing a smooth finish and clean lines.

He is pushing the boundaries of tradition by wood-firing teapots: a technique rarely attempted with purple banko clay due to its fragility under high heat. The deep, lustrous sheen achieved over three days of firing is a testament to his dedication and pioneering spirit.
