Gagyu yunomi - White heron

Using a 250 year old brush technique reintroduced by his father, the 13th generation traditional craftsman Yokoishi Gagyu has created this delightful yunomi graced with a dignified heron. Slip is brushed across the red clay surface of the cup to produce a marbled effect, reminiscent of waves, long grass or even rice stalks swaying in the breeze. The heron is a trademark of this particular artist and is hand drawn with a stately realism. The cup has a lovely smooth finish and is very light to hold.
