Yamada Jozan IV Exhibition in Tokoname

Photographs from a 2012 exhibition of works by Yamada Jozan IV

In early 2012, I had the opportunity to visit an exhibition of works by Yamada Jozan IV in Tokoname.

Yamada Jozan IV is the son of Yamada Jozan III, who was designated a Living National Treasure of Japan for Tokoname ware.

The pieces displayed were exhibition works and were not offered for sale. Nevertheless, I would like to share these photographs with customers of Artistic Nippon and those interested in Tokoname pottery.

The Yamada Jozan Tradition

The Yamada Jozan family has played an important role in the development of modern Tokoname teapots. Their work is appreciated by tea enthusiasts for its refined forms, careful craftsmanship, and deep connection to Japanese tea culture.

These photographs provide a small glimpse into that continuing tradition.
